Creation 2021 / SCARBO – A collaboration with Choreographer Ioannis Mandafounis

In Scarbo, the dancer Manon Parent unveils the deep aspects of her personality to the audience. It goes from movement, to emotions, to states, in a fluid, organic, and almost immediate way, without filter or judgment.
Letting ourselves be seen in all our states, a freedom rarely taken, whether these states are emotional or physical, is the core of Scarbo, it is the sharing of intimacy.

All of the performer’s cells seem to vibrate at the different emotional frequencies that move her.
One can wonder if it is about real or fictitious states, memories of the past, a personal history unveiled, because without being however a story, the dance of Manon tells, it communicates with all.

Scarbo thus questions the place of narration in contemporary dance, its usefulness, its form, its integration, and here offers a unique version that is both completely abstract and completely concrete. The performer herself is at the center of this “story” which tells the alignments of her body, her psyche and her emotions.
The solo is accompanied in part by works by Maurice Ravel and Claude Debussy, which reinforces the play’s sometimes cinematographic character. The rhythmic dialogue of colors and textures that takes place between music and dance – which remains free, independent and unpredictable – creates a continuity that feels completely natural and takes viewers into what could be an art film, “live” version.
